Music as a Pedagogical Tool: a Review of the Research
Studies in psychoneurological research reveal that different types of activities engage specific parts of the brain. When more areas of the brain are engaged, brain activity is maximized (Rauscher 2003). The left brain is associated with analytical, logical, factual and sequential activity. The right brain processes creativity, imagination, intuition and emotion. “Whole brain” activation occurs when large areas of both the left and right brain are engaged at the same time. This is the mental state in which learning is most efficient.
